Canada Charity Partners: Film/Video Production Mentors

Volunteer Position Description InterGenStudio.ca is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to bridging the divide between youth and golden agers by encouraging collaboration and storytelling. We will be hosting a series of workshops with youth with seniors during which participants will learn about interviewing, production and editing. Students and seniors will work together to create 30 x 2-7min videos which will focus on the unique histories, values, and wisdom of the seniors as well as any barriers they have or continue to face. Our focus is to profile seniors from a wide range of diverse communities so if you know of a Senior who would be interested in participating please let us know. We are looking for film/video production mentors able dedicate 1 or more days for 1 or more of the following: 1. Production Workshops. April 29-June 03, 2023. Mentors will work with a small group of students exploring interviewing techniques, video recording, sound recording, lighting and editing. (Mentors can be proficient in 1 or all of these). Workshops with be held Saturday mornings between 10am-12pm at the Explorations learning lab. https://explorationslearning.com/ 2. School Production Workshops. Weekdays May - June in schools in Montreal (Time/dates TBD). These workshops will be shorter than the weekend workshops and will focus separately on interviewing, sound, video recording and editing. 3. Live on-stage recording Session. End of May & Sept. 2 x 1-day recording sessions will take place at a Seniors residence (most likely Vista). This will be a sit-down interview set up filming the youth interviewing seniors in front of a live audience of seniors. 1-2 camera set-up. 4. Video Production. July - August (Schedule TBD according to Senior, Youth and Mentor’s schedule). Video Production will take place at the Explorations’ Learning lab https://explorationslearning.com/ using the lab’s SLR cameras, ipads or mobile phones. Tripods, Wireless lav mics and basic lighting equipment will be provided. Sound will be recorded directly onto a laptop. 5. Editing Workshops. September-October - Explorations as well as online via collaborative editing software, according to the senior, youth and mentor’s schedule. Mentors can participate will offer assistance/feedback at various stages in the editing process either in person or online. Please note that this is a volunteer position with a possibility of a small honorarium depending on the number of mentors and the amount of participation.
