Entraide Bénévole Métro: Art Facilitator with Seniors- Art Expression

Volunteer Position Description Entraide Bénévole Métro is a non profit organization that offers physical and emotional support to seniors experiencing temporary or permanent loss of autonomy within the downtown and Westmount area. Our involvement assists clients in maintaining their independence and remaining in their community through the work of our volunteers. In addition to our primary services of friendly visits, grocery shopping, and medical or banking accompaniments, we offer an Art Expression program. We are actively looking for new facilitators with a background in the arts to do weekly individual sessions. The goal of the Art Expression program is to engage our clients in a mentally and physically stimulating activity. We ask for a minimum commitment of two months and a minimum volunteer time of two hours per week according to your schedule. If this is something that you think you would like to pursue, we would be happy to welcome you among our volunteers. All EBM volunteers receive an orientation, done in person or via video conference call. To apply, please email ebmmetro@vif.com. We can also be reached at 514-939-9575 between 9:00 am and 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Website: https://ebmservices.org/ 1801 de Maisonneuve ouest #750 Montréal, Qc H3H 1J9

Volunteer Position Requirements As a facilitator, you will be responsible to organize and structure the weekly sessions. This will include getting to know the client and what type of art related actively they are interested in doing. There a variety of skill levels, where some individuals may have no experience, while others may have been working artists or simply have a personal interest in art as a hobby. Therefore, how you choose to structure the sessions may vary from one client to the next; there is no specific structure or lesson that we expect you to follow. We require that our facilitators have a background in the arts: drawing, illustration, painting, sculptures, etc. However it is not a requirement to be a professional or trained artist, we welcome anyone with artistic skills. Experience with facilitating/animating workshops or art therapy/education is an asset. Many of clients may have reduced hearing, vision, physical mobility, or memory. Ability to demonstrate patience, geniality, compassion, and non-judgmental active listening is of utmost importance. Volunteering through EBM is non-supervised, that is, our services are conducted on-location at the home of the client.. Once assigned, volunteers are expected to manage their time and communication with the client(s). Of course, we encourage regular communication and reaching out to our volunteer coordinators as necessary. Bilingualism is an asset, but not necessary, as is knowing other languages beyond English or French.
