Volunteer Position Description |
Main Role:
The secretary plays a critical role in communicating and assisting with the organization's
daily operations. In addition to managing and utilizing important records such as meeting
minutes and the organization’s bylaws.
Responsibilities:
1. Regularly attend board and staff meetings and document meeting minutes.
2. Communicates notice of any meetings and timely distribution of materials such as
meeting agenda and meeting minutes.
3. The secretary should know the organization’s records and related material, help and
resources to the board on governance issues, amendments to provincial and federal
laws, etc.
4. Responsible for maintaining accurate documentation and meeting any legal
requirements such as annual filing deadlines and other government documents.
5. The secretary has the right to vote to elect directors in partnership with the rest of
the Board of Directors. Duties may also change from time to time as the board may
assign them.
6. Play a leading role in the daily operations of all programs and fundraising activities.

Qualifications:
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent English written and verbal communication skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
- Familiarity or willingness to acquire knowledge about charitable governance
practices and regulations.
- Proficient in using office software, such as word processing, spreadsheets, and email.
