Volunteer Position Description |
Academic and language mentors meet with elementary or high school students on a weekly basis, for up to one hour, usually at the family home, to help students develop and improve their English and/or French language skills, tutor them in a specific academic subject, help with homework and act as a role model for their students. Mentors motivate students by providing a fun and safe space for students to learn and grow. While most students require in-person meetings, there are sometimes virtual opportunities available. The expected commitment is a minimum of three months with the possibility of longer. This is not a one-size-fits-all program, and the needs fluctuate from student to student. Scheduling is to be confirmed between the mentor and family once a match is made. Volunteers should be fluent in English or French, and at least one other language from English, French, Hebrew, Russian or Ukrainian. |
