Mental Health Group Facilitator

Group facilitators help run our support groups. We are looking for family members and people with lived experience with mental illness who recognize the importance of their personal experience in helping others cope with their own situations. Experience in support groups as a participant is required and training is provided.

Speakers and Presenters – for our Public Awareness program–speaking to schools and businesses about mental illness. You are provided with a presentation and training. If you have lived experience with mental illness in yourself or in a loved one, and are willing to speak about your experience, that’s even better! You must be comfortable with public speaking and have some knowledge of mental illness and mental health.

Medical Team Volunteer

Responsibilities include administering medication, give fluids, force-feed, take the temperature and promptly check the health of all cats in each room and caging if necessary.Our shelter is for cats only and we are located in Rosemont-la-Petite-Patrie. We ask that volunteers commit to one 3-hour shift a week and the shifts are offered Monday to Sunday in the AM 9:00-12:00 or PM: 6:00-9:00.

Cleaning Team Volunteering

Responsibilities include giving food and water, disinfecting surfaces and cages, cleaning the litter boxes, changing blankets, cleaning dishes, remove dust with broom/mop, monitor abnormal behavior/symptoms, play and socialize with the cats.

Quebec Association for People with Aphasia (AQPA)

Accompaniment-friendship visits

The “Association québécoise des personnes aphasiques ” (AQPA) is looking for volunteers to provide friendly visits to people with aphasia in French and English.

The AQPA is a Community Organization whose primary goal is to help people with aphasia overcome social isolation. Aphasia is a language disorder commonly caused by a stroke, head trauma or a tumor. It can cause communication difficulties in daily activities and thus prevent them from enjoying life fully.

The friendly visits are usually offered on a weekly basis, at the home of the person with aphasia. Depending on the need of the person with aphasia, the visits could revolve around language stimulating activities, stimulating activities, going to outings together.

The “Association québécoise des personnes aphasiques” (AQPA) is looking for volunteers to assist language stimulation workshops in French and English. Volunteers with more experience may eventually get the opportunity to be in charge of the group facilitation.

The AQPA is a Community Organization whose primary goal is to help people with aphasia overcome social isolation. Aphasia is a language disorder commonly caused by a stroke, head trauma or a tumor. It can cause communication difficulties in daily activities and thus prevent them from enjoying life fully.

The volunteers are expected to communicate with members informally before and after the workshops, assist the members with their coats, canes, etc, help out with adapted transport and assist the group facilitator with the actual group leading.

Watching and playing with children while mothers attend meetings with counsellors, support groups and/or giving them much needed respite.

Volunteers can watch the children, but are encouraged to play with them or plan small activities to do during their time here.

Volunteers can be scheduled or offer their time when they have it spontaneously.

The workers on the floor can support volunteers if they require help planning activities, or give ideas.

Volunteers are encouraged to use their personal or professional skills when planning activities, if the skills are transferable to working with children.

Recreation Assistant

Volunteers assist with recreational activities in a group or on a one to one basis that are held in our long-term care facilities: St. Andrew (NDG), St. Margaret (Westmount), Henri Bradet (NDG) and Father Dowd (CDN). Friendly visiting with the residents is also available.Volunteering on the week-ends or in the evening is also possible.

To greet and direct clients who come to the CLSC de Benny Farm for services, specifically weekday mornings between 730am and 10:30am when our blood test clinic is opened. The volunteer must be functionally bilingual (English and French).
